Tirta Gangga

Tirta Gangga is a 'water palace' in the north east of Bali near Gunung Agung. It was originally built in the 1940's by the King of Karangasem as a place to go bathe, eat and generally frolic with his entourage and many wives. It was destroyed by the eruption of Gunung Agung in the 60's then rebuilt. Ted and I went there in the B.E. (Before Elsa) days and loved it - very romantic! This time we had our awesome kid in tow and also were with Balinese friend Made which made it ultra special. We walked the water labyrinth, swam in the glorious spring-fed pool, rented some big ole fat inner tubes (you know the kind that are really hot and turn your bathing suit black) and generally frolicked! Walking the water labyrinth. Lots of beautiful big fat golden koy at your feet.

Elsa ready to brave the cool pool! The water is not deep and is fresh so there are little crabs and fishies.
